  • The opposition to Canada's seal hunt is truly global.

  • The original coalition has been joined by a number of other organizations.

  •  Collectively, these groups represent tens of millions of individuals worldwide.

  • The 2005 Seal Hunt:
    From Brutality to Boycott

Following the second phase of this year’s Canadian seal hunt, the official kill count stood at 259,965 seals, a number that solidifies the hunt's reputation as largest commercial slaughter of marine mammals on the planet. Of the dead, 99.5% were baby seals, one month or younger. By the end of the hunt in May, more than 300,000 baby seals will have been killed. Appalled by our on-ice reports, people worldwide are clamoring for an end to the hunt. You can help us convince the Canadian government to stop the hunt forever by joining our boycott of Canadian seafood.

    Why boycott Canadian seafood?

Seal hunting is an off-season activity conducted by fishers from Canada's East Coast. They earn a small fraction of their incomes from sealing—primarily from the sale of seal pelts to European fashion markets. But the vast majority of the sealers' incomes are from commercial fisheries. Canadian seafood exports to the United States contribute $3 billion annually to the Canadian economy—dwarfing the few million dollars provided by the seal hunt. The connection between the commercial fishing industry and the seal hunt in Canada gives consumers all over the world the power to end this cruel and brutal slaughter.

    975,000 BEAUTIFUL WHITE BABY SEALS

It is easy to forget to care for our Animals. And preserving nature in our world. It is a gift we are too close to losing.Words nor photographs can do justice to being in a place where perhaps no one has ever walked before

Stop the Cruel and Senseless Baby Seal Hunt.

    975,000 BEAUTIFUL WHITE BABY SEALS

It is a cold and glistening day,
The ice is so pure and white.

    The stillness is forever untouched,
Small white bundles of fur lying next to their mothers,

Each one moving close to be warmed,
Snuggling their little black nose into their mothers belly,

The ice is full of Joy and Birth
With each one ready to start a new life in this world.

As far as the eye can see, the love of a new family,
Canada had the ideal place to go until we saw the Reality.

Now is that time of year when these new babies will only know fear,
Men will come out hunting and bashing them in their head s with all their gear.

One by one they will die a suffering death,
Not ever getting the chance to take on last breath.

12 days old and enduring more pain than we will ever imagine
Some not quite gone, being skinned alive, My eyes cry with such a vision.

The hunters are many on the ice, the ice is no longer it’s glistening white
Now when you look out across the land all you see is blood from the hand of man.

Their eyes sparkle looking at them,
But they don’t care they keep killing them,

In just a few short days they all are gone,
Nothing remains but the blood in the early predawn,

So many have died, So many have suffered, So many, So many.

975,000 Beautiful baby white seals lay on the ice,
975,000 Beautiful baby white seals now pay the price.

    To the Animals,

    SEA OF BLOOD
    PLEASE HELP US

BOYCOTT CANADA'S SEAFOOD AND TOURISM DON'T TURN YOUR MONEY INTO RED. DON'T PAY THE CANADIAN GOVENMENT TO SUPPORT ANOTHER SEAL HUNT. BOYCOTT!

Recent News from the Farley Mowat in the North Atlantic:

A Sea of Blood as the Government of Canada Tallies the Dead and the Dollars

    Report from the Farley Mowat

    Position: The North Atlantic Ocean

The Canadian government halted the seal slaughter on Sunday night so they could tally how many innocent baby seals were cruelly slaughtered since the killing began in the Gulf of St. Lawrence on March 29th.

Seal carcasses left on the iceThe kill quota this year is 320,00 seals. If the average seal is one meter in length, then every thousand seals killed is a kilometer. In other words, if you line up the seals in this quota end to end, this amounts to a line of dead seal bodies 320 kilometers or some 200 miles long. How can such a remorseless slaughter be considered sustainable?

If each seal has 4 liters of blood, this means one million two hundred and eighty thousand liters of blood spilled onto the ice and into the sea in the past few weeks.

A veritable sea of blood, a horrific massacre blessed by the Newfoundland clergy and sanctioned by the government of Canada.

Recent reports from government officials claim that the quota is still one hundred thousand under the 320,000 figure.

According to the government, the nearly one hundred vessels in the Gulf of St. Lawrence killed 107,000 in three days. This means that the over three hundred vessels on the Front have been having a difficult time in killing the 110,000 they reported taking since Friday. With luck, the bad weather and ice conditions will prove to be a salvation for some of the seals.

THIS IS A BEFORE AND AFTER PICTURE OF THE CRUILITY!

    03/30/2005
PLEASE EMAIL EACH OF THESE PLACES AND TELL THEM TO STOP THE BABY SEAL SLAUGHTER!!

ACTION ALERT: A Call to Help the Seals

You can help to make this campaign a success and end the slaughter. Unfortunately for the seals, the media coverage for this first day of this horrific slaughter has been minimal to none.

We need your help! The seals need your help!

We have provided a list of national media outlets and ask that you contact them by email, fax or phone and give them our contact information.

Here are some key talking points:

I am a concerned citizen and I want this important issue covered – it is the largest mass slaughter of marine mammals in the world!

325,000 seals are being slaughtered right now and 95% of them are babies less than four weeks old.

I have joined in the Canadian Seafood Boycott which has been put into action in an effort to put financial pressure on Canada to bring the “hunt” to a permanent end.

Sea Shepherd is in the midst of the battle with their ship, Farley Mowat, trying to protect the seals.
Please make at least one call / fax / e-mail TODAY for the seals!

The RED LOBSTER RESTAURANT CHAIN buys more seafood from the seal killers than any other restaurant. - Please contact Red Lobster (click on the underlined link above)and ask them to boycott Canadian Seafood until Canada stops the cruel and senseless slaughter of baby Harp Seals in Labrador and Newfoundland. Refuse to eat at Red Lobster restaurants, and refuse to buy fresh, frozen, canned, dried, capsuled, or other kind of fish products from Canada until it stops the annual seal massacre forever. A little inconvenience at the dinner table is the least we can all do to end the vicious clubbing and live skinning of infant Seals in the hundreds of thousands, and millions. YOu may not think your one email or call will help. But, from what we have seen, one person can make all the difference. Please show your outrage and do not support Canada's mass slaughter of baby seals.
